Introduction
For years, different stories, theories and scenarios have been told, propounded and created with regards to the problem of Herdsmen and farmers all over Nigeria; so much that it has become attracted the international community. They leave the community they have visited with their arms in disarray, mourning and weeping. Even in the face of the sorrowful and pitiable state they leave the community in, the government seems not to care. While the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Secretary to the Federal Government and other personnel (of course with the exclusion of President Buhari) has maintained the stand that the Herdsmen are immigrants from outside Nigeria and not of Fulani tribe, some others like Femi Fani-Kayode, Chief Olu Falae and a larger extent of farmers (my area inclusive) are of the view that these rampaging herdsmen are of Fulani ancestry. This piece looks into the activities of the herdsmen in Nigeria, decries these activities and then  suggests solutions that may check the evil from running into bigger mess.

The Issues:
One can imagine the pains of a farmer who, having concluded all pre-farming and post-farming processes, awaits the time of harvest only to be shocked by the action of the denizens of the underworld called herdsmen, who lead their cattle into the farmlands with a singular purpose of destruction. It is very saddening that one's weeks of labour come crashing in less than 30 minutes. It is worthy of note that the soles of the feet of these animals as they move are more than enough to wreck havoc on farmlands and more so, due to the farming system in some areas, especially where there are only but foot-paths leading to and inside the farms, it is imperative that the cattle, must have to mash the crops, considering their numbers and the just one or two herdsmen, who got their back.
But then what is the real issue? Why the attacks in the first place? There appears not to be a definite answer in this regard. There are claims and counter claims arising from different groups. Thus the farmers argue that the cattle damage their crops. A farmer's hope thus dashed, he eats agony for meals and then may resort to self help either by slaughtering the cows or poisoning them as he sees these as the only solution that he has in the face of such senseless and wanton destruction of the crops he sweated upon to plant. Just days ago, an Hausa farmer posted pictures of his farm that was destroyed by cattle. His questioned the rationale behind terming youths lazy. The same rationale that would ask the youths to go back to the farms, but then only for cattle to do what they do best – destroy!
But then the Fulani herdsmen argue that they are being attacked by the community and that their cattle have been stolen on a countless number of times. They contend that they have made complaints to relevant authorities but to no avail.  To this effect, they take up arms in defense of themselves. But then it becomes unfortunate that many lives have been lost in this debacle.

In order to understand the evil and the extent to which these herdsmen have gone, we need to understand their place in the world. Thus the global Terrorism index in 2015 ranked Fulani militants the fourth deadliest militant group in the world. And according to Institute for Economics and peace, the Fulani militants killed about 63 persons in 2013, about 1,229 people in 2014. Of course these killings continued even this year. And their most recent attacks this year is that of Ossissa Community in Ndokwa east Local government Area in Delta State, and those of Ugondo, Turan and Gabo Nenzev of Logo Local government Area in Benue State. We are also aware of their attacks in Enugu state.

WHY DOES THE ATTACK PREVAIL?
It is then not surprising why these attacks keep increasing by day and unabated. It is then very important that we list some factors which contribute to these attacks. First is the lackadaisical attitude of the security personnel. They do not take these attacks seriously. This is confirmed by the late response from them. We are not unaware of the allegation trailing Agatu attack, where the police got Intel of the situation but because their hands were tied by some power blocs above, they couldn’t foist the attack.  Another factor is the indifferent attitude of the government. They have failed to put preventive but pragmatic measures to check these excessive attacks. Thus this attitude exposes the Nigerian government, as insensitive, who has interest only in repairing the damages rather than prevention. Moreover we see ethnicity as another factor that keep this anomaly unchecked. Thus, if the federal government decides to take harsh action against these herdsmen, you will not be surprised to see some elders from Fulani extraction condemning the government. Worse still, some of them may go to the extent of wrongly advising the president, telling him that things are not really as bad as the media paints it. Furthermore, we see impunity as another factor. The fact that the government has seeming soft spot for them is enough encouragement. The herdsmen always believe that they would go unpunished after all, that their ‘Ogas-at-the-top’; the real owners of the cattle got their backs. Finally we see bad orientation of the Fulani herdsmen as a factor. They have this mind-set that their cattle worth more than the lives of men. Thus, they go extra-mile to secure them.
It is discovered that these herdsmen use sophisticated weapons. And not just that they kill, they also kidnap. The recent attacks on Catholic priests and different other reported and unreported attacks on innocent citizens without provocation has raised so many ethical and political issues.
  1. The issue of the real identity of the herdsmen. The question is, if these men are not Fulani herdsmen, who are they? While the farmers and majority of other stakeholders have taken the stand that these marauders are of Fulani extraction.
  2. The issue of indifference of the government.  It is not clear if these herdsmen are Fulanis, or Boko Haram or even foreign immigrants. Whichever, why has the government of the day not done anything to arrest these illegal immigrants and elements of Boko Haram? The President and the Presidency seem indifferent to this debacle. The press releases of the President, most especially in that of 1st October, the only mention of herdsmen was in the paragraph where he just subtly mentioned "herdsmen vs farmers" while he cast endless aspersions on the Niger Delta militants. Why has the President not made a nationwide broadcast condemning the actions and activities of the herdsmen?

  1. The issues of acquisition of arms. One wonders from where the herdsmen get the sophisticated weapons? Are there some hidden agenda or conspiracies hidden from the glare of the public?

  1. The issue of misplaced value. Is the life of cattle more important than that of a Nigerian? Apart from these ethical and political dimensions listed above, there is also economic dimension in terms of the effects of the unchecked attacks of the Fulani herdsmen. They include Loss of investors, Reduction of crop yield, Loss of lives and properties, and Destruction of buildings

SUGGESTIONS
In order to find lasting solution to this situation, this piece suggests a few ways out of this problem. Firstly, this piece agrees with much suggested view on the establishment of cattle ranches across the northern part of the country as this will put paid the senseless killings of innocent people in cold blood and the destruction of farmlands.

Secondly, the government has to firstly, in a clear and strong worded national broadcast condemn the actions of these herdsmen and then go extra miles in arresting the herdsmen and then, unmasking the true identities of the Cattle owners, and either prosecute them or depot them (assuming it is true that they are not Nigerians).

Thirdly, there is need for the government to secure the border. This comes on the heels of the allegation that the perpetrators aren’t Nigerians. if this is the case, the government should fasten their belt and tighten up the border policy against the foreigners who come to Nigeria to kill and destroy.

Furthermore, there is need to recreate or deconstruct the minds of these herdsmen. They should be taught that life is sacred and that no amount of love they have for their cows would surpass the value in human person.

Moreover, there should be adequate laws that will deter the encroaching on farmlands by herdsmen. This in connection with the first suggestion would go a long way in putting these attacks to a dead end.

Finally and most importantly, there is need for negotiation between host community and Fulani herdsmen. This meeting will establish working modalities that would guide the affairs of both the herdsmen and the communities they settle.
If these suggestions are seriously considered by government and relevant bodies, we believe that things will work out for the better. God bless Nigeria!

Orumba Traditional rulers shuns Mr. Willie Obiano

Nwoye praises courage of Orumba North traditional rulers for shunning Obiano
The Dr. Tony Nwoye Campaign Organisation has praised the courage of the traditional rulers in Orumba North who recently refused to welcome Governor Willie Obiano during his recent campaign visit to the area to protest his failure to carry out projects in the area.
The Nwoye Campaign said that the failure of the governor to carry out any project was despite the flow of N4.137 billion as statutory allocation for Orumba North in the period Obiano has been in power.

Noting the forthrightness of the Igwes, the Nwoye Campaign said that the traditional rulers had shown themselves to be elders who have put the interest of their people above any other consideration.

In the statement signed by Barrister Nonso Madu, the Nwoye Campaign charged every stakeholder with the interest of the state to show similar courage by giving Governor Obiano a red card on polling day.

“What the Igwes of Orumba North demonstrated when Willie Obiano came visiting was a great act of courage reflective of traditional rulers who have the interest of their people at heart.

“Many who are faint hearted would fear for their crowns or be carried away with the champagne that our governor is now using to entice voters. Orumba North traditional rulers have shown that their interests go beyond what a sitting governor can give to them, they have rather looked forward to the deeper interests of their people.

“This is a governor that has warehoused or wasted N4.137 billion allocated from the Federation Account for Orumba North since he was inaugurated in 2014 and that is besides what he inherited.”“Voters everywhere in Anambra should show similar courage to reject Obiano and show him the red card on polling day.The Nwoye Campaign vowed that the election of Dr. Nwoye as governor would change the way government relates with the people.

“Dr. Nwoye has his testimonial of performance as he has shown with his brief stay in the House of Representatives where his impact has been felt by those who elected him to represent the people of Anambra East/West Federal Constituency. As governor with executive power he would make more impact on the people without discrimination,” the Campaign said.

The Celibacy of the Catholic priest is debatable and not a dogma..pope said

Pope Francis requests that Roman Catholic priests be given the right to get married

•Pope Francis
Pope Francis has requested that Roman Catholic priests be given the right to get married.

The request applies to priests in Brazil, and is on the agenda for an upcoming synod (church council) in the Amazon region.

The controversial move would address the critical shortage of men joining the priesthood – but is likely to drive divisions through the church by enraging conservative factions.A small number of married Roman Catholic priests already exist, including previously married Anglican vicars who have joined the church.
A request to lift the ban on marriage was made by Brazilian bishop Cardinal Claudio Hummes, who reportedly asked the Pope to consider ‘viri probati’, meaning married of great faith, as priests.
Derry priest Father Paddy O’Kane suggested that Pope Francis may move to end celibacy earlier this month, saying there was support amongst the church for the idea.

Fr O’Kane cited Brazilian liberation theologian Leonardo Boff, who said: “The Brazilian bishops, especially the pope’s own personal friend Cardinal Claudio Hummes, have expressly requested Pope Francis to enable married priest in Brazil to return to pastoral ministry.

“I have recently heard that the pope wants to fulfil this request – as an experimental, preliminary phase for the moment confined to Brazil.”

Earlier this year the Pope told Die Zeit newspaper: ‘We must consider if ‘viri probati’ is a possibility. Then we must determine what tasks they can perform, for example, in remote communities.’

Francis and his predecessor Benedict XVI have both stated that celibacy is not a matter of inflexible church dogma unlike, and could be debated.

Politics: Mr Peter Obi claims not to have chosen the present Gov; as his successor

Ex-governor denies His Excellency Willie Obiano

Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi on Wednesday opened up on the circumstances that led to the emergence of Chief Willie Obiano as his successor, instead of the current flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oseloka Obaze.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of state chapter of Southeast/South South Women of Substance group at the PDP rally in Ezinihite, Aguata Local Government Area of the state, Obi disclosed that issues arose within the fold of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) following the refusal of the party's former National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh to accept the candidacy of none of the three aspirants brought out to replace Obi.

He said the candidates were: Obaze, Hon Chinedu Idigo and Dr. Chike Obidigbo.

According to him, “Umeh, in an effort to ensure that neither of the three aspirants emerged candidate of the party, disqualified all of them.

“For the interest of peace in our party, we accepted his decision and started campaigning for Obiano.

“Obiano came in and did nothing in four years. If he had done some work, it would have spoken for him without him making noise about it. Somebody that didn't do anything in his first tenure, in his second tenure he will go to sleep.

“I said it when we were campaigning for Obiano at Nnewi that if he fails to work, I will lead the campaign to oust him and that is what I am doing.

“I don’t have issues with Willie Obiano, he is my friend but I have problem with Governor Willie Obiano. We need to put a person that would work for the benefits of Ndi Anambra, that is my interest. Anambra needs capable hands to move it forward. The selling point in politics is work, when you work your work will speak for you.

“If Obaze works well as governor, people will hail him anywhere he goes the way they hail me now.”
Speaking at the campaign, PDP standard bearer Obaze said that he has come to right the wrongs of the present government of Obiano saying that he (Obiano) was a bargain gone wrong.
He said he would work towards a thriving government by dedicating 26% of the state budget to education, place people of 75years and above who have not worked before on monthly salary of N5,000 among others.

Courts orders Banks to unregistered (BVN) customer

Anxiety grips banks over Nov. 3 deadline for BVN
Banks were gripped yesterday by the fear of a major liquidity crisis should the government pull out funds belonging to customers without Bank Verification Number (BVN).  The deadline given by the court for such customers to lose their cash is tomorrow.Justice Dimgba Igwe of the Federal High Court, ruling on an ex parte application filed by the Federal Government through the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on October 21, granted the temporary forfeiture of such cash within two weeks unless the owners justify their ownership of such accounts.

There has been confusion over the status of such funds after the 14-day deadline.

The Nation learnt yesterday that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) might, at the expiration of the deadline, compel the 21 commercial banks to provide a status report on non-BVN-linked accounts in their books. When that happens, banking sector liquidity may suffer as lenders begin to return un-linked funds to government coffers.

The Vice-President, West African Pan African Lawyers Union (PALU), Emeka Obegoru, said if  there was no suit challenging the court ruling, the banks will have to produce a full list of their customers without BVN.
He said failure to comply meant the banks will have to tell the court why they could not produce the list.

Director-General of the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM) Prof. Akpan Ekpo agreed with Obegoru. He said  if neither the banks nor individuals complained and the timeline elapsed, the government must find a way to get the funds from the lenders. He disclosed that many people with skeletons in their cupboards still refused to enroll on the BVN network because it will expose their illicit financial dealings.

He, however, said it would remain an uphill task for the government to trace the funds, given that the banks are more likely to protect their customers unless whistle blowers give out information on the accounts to the public or the government.Ekpo said keeping money in safe, a practice that does not require BVN, had been a regular practice, and will continue to be an avenue where fraudulent persons keep huge cash in banks’ vaults to evade asset tracers. “I think it will turn a money spinner for whistleblowers as government pressures the banks to get the true position of key accounts without BVN,” he said.Ekpo said lenders could collude with high net-worth customers or politically exposed persons without BVN or accounts not linked to BVN to ensure their financial dealings are not exposed. “How to get the funds out from the banks is going to be a problem for government because chances are that banks will protect their customers. Even if the government decides to raid the banks, genuine customers’ money may be carted away,” he said,Former Executive Director, Keystone Bank, Richard Obire, said for now, neither banks nor civil society groups had challenged the expartethe judgment, hence leaving the implementation of the ruling at the discretion of the Federal Government.
He said where the funds involved were large enough, the liquidity of the banking sector might be threatened as more cash leave to government coffers. “If the funds leave the banks to government coffers, the affected lenders may suffer liquidity challenges depending on the level of their customers’ involvement,” he said.He added that the government may react to the criticisms by being selective in its implementation.

Principal Counsel at Eze & Associates, Chukwuemeka Eze, said when the implementation begins, individuals affected by the policy could challenge it in court. That means the burden of proof will shift to the owner of the money not linked to the BVN. “The person has to prove where he was, and why he was not able to enroll on the BVN network. It will be based on individuals making case for themselves when the timeline expires tomorrow,” he said.
Eze said the banks might escalate the discussion at the next Bankers’ Committee meeting because of the sensitive nature of the matter involved.“When the banks come under serious pressure as the implementation begins, which is likely, they will have to call for a Bankers’ Committee meeting to decide on how to approach the dilemma. But there are still going to be some exceptions, such as Nigerians in Diaspora and those serving long prison sentences,” he said.Eze said the government had to be careful in implementing the court order, as it had the capability of causing economic dislocation. The real targets, according to him, are people who open accounts with fake names to hide fraudulently obtained wealth

Power Tussle in Nasarawa State Polytechnic

There was confusion in Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, as two registrars emerged following the sacking of three principal officers of the institution.

While one of the embattled registrars, Mr. Habu Danladi, was appointed by the out-going registrar, Mr. Labani Joseph, the Acting Rector, Mr. Ali Gabu, appointed Mr. Ibrahim Usman as the second acting registrar.

The Guardian gathered that the two persons are laying claim to the office.

When contacted, Gabu said: “The institution is still under-going the process of handing over and therefore, it is not in his power to make any policy statement on who is the authentic acting registrar, and more so he just took over the office.”

But a source, who claimed anonymity, told The Guardian in Lafia that shortly after the directive by government compelling the out-going registrar to hand over to the most senior officer, the government again ordered the acting rector to appoint Mr. Ibrahim Usman who is not the most senior but the choice of the government.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura had last week sacked the rector, the registrar and the bursar and ordered that they should hand over to their deputies pending when the investigation panel would conclude its assignment.

12 Best Foods to Eat in the Morning

Despite what you may have heard, eating breakfast isn’t necessary for everyone.

In fact, skipping breakfast may be better than eating many unhealthy breakfast foods.

However, eating the right foods can give you energy and prevent you from eating too much during the rest of the day.

Here are the 12 best foods you can eat in the morning.

1. Eggs
Eggs are undeniably healthy and delicious.

Studies have shown eating eggs at breakfast increases feelings of fullness, reduces calorie intake at the next meal and helps maintain steady blood sugar and insulin level.

In one study, men ate either eggs or a bagel for breakfast. They felt more satisfied after the eggs, and took in fewer calories during the rest of the day.

Additionally, egg yolks contain lutein and zeaxanthin. These antioxidants help prevent eye disorders like cataracts and macular degeneration.

Eggs are also one of the best sources of choline, a nutrient that’s very important for brain and liver health.

They’re also high in cholesterol, but don’t raise cholesterol levels in most people. In fact, eating whole eggs may reduce heart disease risk by modifying the shape of LDL, increasing HDL and improving insulin sensitivity.

What’s more, three large eggs provide about 20 grams of high-quality protein.

Eggs are also very versatile. For example, hard-boiled eggs make a great portable breakfast that can be prepared ahead of time.

BOTTOM LINE:
Eggs are high in protein and several important nutrients. They also promote fullness and help you eat fewer calories.

2. Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is creamy, delicious and nourishing.

It is made by straining whey and other liquid from the curds, which produces a creamier yogurt that is more concentrated in protein.

Protein has been shown to reduce feelings of hunger, and has a higher thermic effect than fat or carbs.

The term “thermic effect” refers to the increase in metabolic rate that occurs after eating.

Yogurt and other dairy products can also help with weight control, because they increase levels of hormones that promote fullness, including PYY and GLP-1 .

Full-fat yogurt also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which may increase fat loss and decrease breast cancer risk.

Certain types of Greek yogurt are good sources of probiotics, like Bifidobacterium, which help your gut stay healthy. To make sure your yogurt contains probiotics, look for the phrase “contains live and active cultures” on the label.

Try topping Greek yogurt with berries or chopped fruit in order to increase the meal’s vitamin, mineral and fiber content.

BOTTOM LINE:
Greek yogurt is high in protein, helps reduce appetite and may aid with weight loss. Certain types also contain beneficial probiotics.

3. Coffee
Coffee is an amazing beverage to start your day.

It’s high in caffeine, which has been shown to improve mood, alertness and mental performance.

Even small amounts of caffeine can achieve these effects .

An analysis of 41 studies found the most effective dose to be 38–400 mg per day, to maximize the benefits of caffeine while reducing side effects.

This is roughly 0.3 to 4 cups of coffee per day, depending on how strong it is.

Caffeine has also been shown to increase metabolic rate and fat burning. In one study, 100 mg of caffeine per day helped people burn an extra 79–150 calories over a 24-hour period.

Coffee is also rich in antioxidants, which reduce inflammation, protect the cells lining your blood vessels and decrease diabetes and liver disease risk.

BOTTOM LINE:
Having a cup of coffee is a great way to start your day. The caffeine in it may improve mood, mental performance and metabolism.

4. Oatmeal
Oatmeal is the best breakfast choice for cereal lovers.

It’s made from ground oats, which contain a unique fiber called beta-glucan. This fiber has many impressive health benefits, including reduced cholesterol.
In addition, beta-glucan is a viscous fiber that promotes feelings of fullness. One study found that beta-glucan increased levels of the “fullness hormone” PYY and that higher doses had the greatest effect.

Oats are also rich in antioxidants, which protect their fatty acids from becoming rancid. These antioxidants may also help protect heart health and decrease blood pressure.

Although oats don’t contain gluten, they’re often processed in the same facilities as gluten-containing grains. Researchers have found that most oats are indeed contaminated with other grains, especially barley.

Therefore, people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity should choose oats that have been certified as gluten-free.

One cup of cooked oatmeal contains about 6 grams of protein, which won’t provide the benefits of a higher-protein breakfast. Oatmeal made from steel-cut oats provides about twice as much protein.

To boost the protein content of an oatmeal breakfast, prepare it with milk instead of water or serve it with a side of eggs or a piece of cheese.

BOTTOM LINE:
Oatmeal is rich in beta-glucan fiber, which lowers cholesterol and increases feelings of fullness. It also contains antioxidants.

5. Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are extremely nutritious.

They’re also one of the best sources of fiber around.

In fact, one ounce (28 grams) of chia seeds provides an impressive 11 grams of fiber per serving.

What’s more, a portion of the fiber in chia seeds is viscous fiber.

Viscous fiber absorbs water, which increases the volume of food moving through your digestive tract and helps you feel full and satisfied.

In a small study, people with diabetes who ate chia seeds for 12 weeks experienced reduced hunger, along with improvements in blood sugar and blood pressure.

Chia seeds are also high in antioxidants. They protect your cells from unstable molecules called free radicals, which are produced during metabolism.

In another study of people with diabetes, chia seeds decreased the inflammatory marker CRP by 40%. Elevated CRP is a major risk factor for heart disease.

However, one serving of chia seeds provides about 4 grams of protein, which may not be optimal for breakfast.

Here is a recipe for chia pudding that contains more than 25 grams of protein.

High-Protein Chia Seed Pudding
Ingredients:

1 ounce (28 grams) dried chia seeds.
1 scoop whey protein powder.
1 cup coconut milk or almond milk.
Half a cup of berries.
Stevia or other sweetener to taste, if desired.
Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Cover bowl and refrigerate for at least one hour.

BOTTOM LINE:
Chia seeds are high in fiber and packed with antioxidants that may reduce inflammation and decrease disease risk.

6. Berries
Berries are delicious and packed with antioxidants.

Popular types include blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries.

They’re lower in sugar than most fruits, yet higher in fiber. In fact, raspberries and blackberries each provide an impressive 8 grams of fiber per cup.

What’s more, one cup of berries contains only 50–85 calories, depending on the type.

Berries also contain antioxidants called anthocyanins, which protect your heart and may help you age better.

Berries have been shown to reduce markers of inflammation, prevent blood cholesterol from becoming oxidized and keep the cells lining your blood vessels healthy.

A good way to add berries to your breakfast is to eat them with Greek yogurt or cottage cheese.

BOTTOM LINE:
Berries are high in fiber and low in calories. They’re also rich in antioxidants that may decrease the risk of disease.

7. Nuts
Nuts are tasty, satisfying and nutritious.

They’re a great addition to breakfast because they are filling and help prevent weight gain.

Even though nuts are high in calories, studies suggest you do not absorb all of the fat in them.

In fact, your body only absorbs about 129 calories from a 28-gram (1-ounce) serving of almonds.

This may be true for some other nuts as well, although at this time only almonds have been tested.

Furthermore, nuts have been shown to improve heart disease risk factors, reduce insulin resistance and decrease inflammation.

All types of nuts are also high in magnesium, potassium and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat.

In addition, Brazil nuts are one of the best sources of selenium. In fact, just two Brazil nuts provide more than 100% of the recommended daily intake of selenium.

Nuts are also beneficial for people with diabetes. In one study, replacing a portion of carbs with 2 ounces of nuts led to reduced blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Topping Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or oatmeal with 2 tablespoons of chopped nuts provides crunch and flavor, while increasing your breakfast’s nutritional value.

BOTTOM LINE:
Nuts are filling, nutrient-dense foods that may help reduce heart disease risk and improve blood sugar control.

8. Green Tea
Green tea is one of the healthiest beverages on the planet.

It contains caffeine, which improves alertness and mood, along with raising metabolic rate.

Green tea provides only 35–70 mg of caffeine per cup, which is about half the amount in coffee.

Green tea may be especially helpful against diabetes. A review of 17 studies found that green tea drinkers had reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels.

It also contains an antioxidant known as EGCG, which may protect the brain, nervous system and heart from damage.

BOTTOM LINE:
Green tea has many health benefits. It contains an antioxidant called EGCG, which has benefits for the brain and nervous system.

9. Protein Shake
Another great way to start your day is with a protein shake or smoothie.

Several types of protein powder can be used, including whey, egg, soy and pea protein.

However, whey protein is absorbed the most quickly by your body.

It has also been studied the most, and provides several health benefits. Additionally, it seems to reduce appetite more than other forms of protein.

One study compared four high-protein meals. They whey protein meal reduced appetite the most and led to the lowest calorie intake at the next meal.

In addition, whey protein can help lower blood sugar levels when consumed as part of a carb-containing meal. It can also preserve muscle mass during weight loss and aging.

Regardless of the type of protein powder used, a high-protein shake can be satisfying and filling. Add fruit, greens, nut butter or seeds to provide fiber and antioxidants.

BOTTOM LINE:
A protein shake or smoothie is a great high-protein breakfast choice that promotes fullness and helps stabilize blood sugar levels.

10. Fruit
Fruit can be a delicious part of a nourishing breakfast.

All types of fruit contain vitamins, potassium, fiber and are relatively low in calories. One cup of chopped fruit provides about 80–130 calories, depending on the type.

Citrus fruits are also very high in vitamin C. In fact, a large orange provides more than 100% of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.

Fruit is also very filling, due to its high fiber and water content.

Pair fruit with eggs, cheese, cottage cheese or Greek yogurt for a well-balanced breakfast that will sustain you for hours.

BOTTOM LINE:
Fruit is a good source of vitamins, potassium and fiber. It also contains antioxidants that can help reduce disease risk.

11. Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds are incredibly healthy.

They’re rich in viscous fiber, which helps you feel full for several hours after eating.

Flaxseeds may also improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels, as well as protect against breast cancer.

Two tablespoons of ground flaxseeds contain 3 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber.

Try adding flaxseeds to Greek yogurt, cottage cheese or a smoothie to increase the fiber and antioxidant content of your breakfast.

Just make sure to choose ground flaxseeds or grind them yourself, because whole flaxseeds can’t be absorbed by your gut and will simply pass through your system.

BOTTOM LINE:
Flaxseeds are high in viscous fiber, which helps you feel full. They may also improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels.

12. Cottage Cheese
Cottage cheese is a fantastic breakfast food.

It’s high in protein, which increases metabolism, produces feelings of fullness and decreases the “hunger hormone” ghrelin (9, 10, 78).

In fact, cottage cheese has been shown to be as filling and satisfying as eggs.

Full-fat cottage cheese also contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which may promote weight loss.

1 cup of cottage cheese provides an impressive 25 grams of protein. Add berries and ground flaxseeds or chopped nuts to make it even more nutritious.

BOTTOM LINE:
Cottage cheese is high in protein, which promotes feelings of fullness and increases your metabolic rate.

Biafra Nations Youth League

BIAFRA: BNYL Referendum Activities To Commence Next Week

The Biafra Nations Youth League, BNYL, has spoken on their grassroots referendum activities to commence Monday next week.

Princewill Obuka, BNYL Leader said the group will converge in Akwa Ibom State, to honor late Biafra Chief of General Staff and Vice

President General Philip Effiong.

According to Obuka, Igbos and entire ethnic groups of former Eastern region would have been consumed by the civil war “if not that

Effiong decided to swallow his ego and agreed with Ojukwu and the rest Easterners”.

Speaking further, the group stated that the Akwa Ibom State Chapter would go for thanksgiving service on Sunday in memory of Effiong legacy, even as he noted that “the declaration that ended the war paved way for today’s nonviolent movement.”

Obuka explained that the BNYL faithful will commence its referendum programs, a gathering he noted would witness the presence of war veterans especially from Akwa Ibom and Cross River State.

“It will be an all grassroots engagements, and we will make sure we continue within the ambit of national and international laws.

“We are equally appealing to UN to do what is expected of them and do not wait until the situation escalates”, he added.

Professor alleged to have found the drug for Hiv

Nigerian Professor Invents New HIV Drug, Treats Over 500

A researcher, Prof. Madubuike Ezeibe, has called on Federal Government to carry out a clinical trial of the drug he invented for the treatment of HIV/AIDS, Aluminum-Magnesium Silicate.

A clinical trial is a study that explores whether a medical strategy, treatment, or device is safe and effective for humans. It shows which approaches work best for certain illnesses or groups of people.

Ezeibe, a professor of Veterinary Medicine, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, made the call in Umuahia on Monday.

The don who presented a paper on the potential of the drug as both antiviral and raw material, at a world conference on Ethnopharmacology in Chicago, United States, on May 2, 2016, said that more than one year after he invented and presented his findings at different international conferences, no authority anywhere in the world had disputed the research findings.

“I, therefore, appeal to the federal government to institute an inter-ministerial committee to carry out clinical trial of the drug in six centres across the country without further delay.

“The committee should comprise federal Ministries of Health, Education, Environment as well as Science and Technology, with, at least, 1000 sample patients from each state of the federation.

“Some of the findings of the research include that silicates have molecules that are 0.96 nanometre in size while HIV has molecules as big as 110 nanometres.

“The particles of AMS are positively and negatively charged, while HIV-infected cells are positively charged. The AMS are immune stimulants; one can use simple sugar (glucose) to transport charged molecules across the mucous membrane to the blood.

“Glucose helps to transport the drug to any part of the body, including ‘the sanctuary’, where other drugs cannot reach to attack the HIV-infected cells.

“So, if these findings are true and nobody has challenged the claims of the research, let the federal government set up an inter-ministerial committee to conduct clinical trial of the medicine,’’ he said.

Ezeibe expressed joy that the Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Francis Otunta and the University Senate had investigated his claims and given their approvals.

He said aside from support from the university, the Abia Government also sponsored the publication of the book on AMS which, according to him, is now available for sale.

The researcher said that no fewer than 500 HIV cases within and outside Nigeria had been referred to him which he treated.

“All the HIV cases were referral from a medical doctor to the Medical Director of MOUAU. I have also handled referrals from different parts of African and Asian continents,’’ Ezeibe said.

Donald Trump bans Green Card

UPDATED: Trump vows to terminate green card lottery programme

Donald Trump

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he would end the popular US green card lottery after a radicalized Uzbek man who entered the country under the programme killed eight people in New York.

“I am starting the process of terminating the diversity lottery programme,” Trump told reporters.

“We have to do what’s right to protect our citizens,” he told reporters.

“We will get rid of this lottery programme as soon as possible.”

The 1990 programme awards US permanent resident visas to around 50,000 applicants from around the world each year, opening the door as well for members of their broader families to follow them, so-called chain migration.

According to Trump, Sayfullo Saipov, who plowed a rented truck into cyclists and pedestrians on a New York City bike path Tuesday, came to the country via the programme.

Saipov was arrested after being shot by police and officials said he planned to undertake his attack in the name of Islamic State for weeks, following online instructions from the jihadist group.

Trump’s threat would further close the doors to hopeful US immigrants, after slashing the country’s annual refugee intake by more than 50 percent, tightening visa issuance around the world and attempting to ban travellers from 11 countries, most of them with Muslim-majority populations. Uzbekistan is not among the 11.

The programme Trump threatened Wednesday aims to diversify the origins of people granted permanent residence — so-called green cards — in the United States.

In 2015 the green card lottery, applications were received for more than 14 million people, and 49,377 won green cards.  That included 2,524 Uzbeks.

Trump said he wants to move US immigration to a “merit-based system” and not allow immigrants to bring their extended families.

“We want to get rid of chain migration,” he said.
